The information board at the Baltavár fossil site was put up during summer 2006 to inform passers-by on the significance of the seemingly unspectacular plot of land.
Baltavár in western Hungary has long been known as a rich source of late Miocene terrestrial fossils. The most famous ones are the large mammals, such as the three-toed horse, Hipparion. Professor László Kordos of the Geological Institute of Hungary is interested in this fossil site, because its fauna documents an important climatic change. The design of the posters and the animal paintings were done by Emese Kazár. |
